Let's have dinner at SoleLuna

Tagliolini Ai Frutti Di Mare
Leave it to my boyfriend to always pick out the best places in NYC to have dinner! I have never ventured out to the Sunnyside area in Queens, NY but Daniel and I were in Astoria and decided to have dinner around the area. Daniel had picked SoleLuna because he swears by FourSquare and always picks places based on their recommendation. We walked into SoleLuna at around 5:40 p.m. without a reservation and noticed that it may have still been too early for dinner but we didn't mind since we were starving! We were seated right away and decided to have drinks as well ass appetizers. Daniel had an Italian beer while I opted for a glass of Sangria and we both shared a plate of Polpette (four meatballs braised in tomato sauce) and had a decent amount of bread for starters.

I am personally not a fan of meatballs since it tends to freak me out ever since I had my first meatball experience from Subway. I have to admit that these were the best meatballs I have ever had and I even started craving them days later! As my main course I knew I wanted a pasta dish with seafood and that is exactly what I had (see picture above). My plate was everything I could ask for and it reminded me a lot of my dad's cooking which brought me much joy.

Trofie Al Pesto
(Twisted fresh pasta with pesto sauce)

Daniel on the other hand opted for a simple pesto pasta dish which I found to be a bit too "pesto-y" but he mentioned that he really enjoyed his dish. All in all I know this has got be my favorite Italian restaurant since everyone was very welcoming and the atmosphere was just wonderful (not to mention our waitress looked a lot like Kristen Bell!).

If you are ever in the area and want to explore a great Italian restaurant then I highly recommend SoleLuna. You can check out their website HERE or read their Yelp Reviews or FourSquare Reviews

Until next time!

Utopia - Gel Manicure

Let's talk about nails today. I have been wanting to write a review on a nail salon I have gone to a couple of times. My first experience at a nail salon was when I had saved up enough money to pay for a simple polish manicure that I wanted for my high school prom. I was really disappointed with my experience and my nail did not turn out the way I wanted them to and I felt overcharged. Fast forward 6 years later and I decided to once again go to a salon that had recently opened up. From the moment I booked my appointment at Utopia Nail & Spa I knew that I would be receiving great customer service.

My experience at Utopia Nail Salon is always close to perfect. I have gone to this salon about 3 times within the past year and I always feel welcomed and I am always well taken care of. As soon as you enter the nail salon you feel as if you were walking into an upscale nail salon that belongs on 5th Ave. Utopia offers great customer service and the staff are really accommodating to your needs and do your nails with lots of patience and are eager to get to know their customers. After years of experimenting with different nail polishes I had come to the conclusion that regular nail polish would never last more than a day or two until it chipped. Jorge who I believe manages the nail salon and bookings suggested that I get a gel manicure since it would last me about 2 weeks. I decided to opt-in for a mauve pink color and I was really impressed with the service and my nails lasted for about 4 weeks!

Two weeks ago I decided to bring my sister and my mentee to this nail salon and they were really pleased with the service and my mentee admitted that this was the most luxurious nail salon she had ever been to. I was really happy that they enjoyed their experience and I know I will try to convince my mom to come here for her birthday in a couple of months. Utopia is a place that really cares about their customers and they never fail to ask if you need anything to drink. I think my favorite part about this nail salon is the positive energy that you feel as soon as you walk into the door and also the complimentary lavender and honey hand massage they give after your manicure.

If you are in the NYC area and want to get your nails done then I highly suggest coming to Utopia. You can check out their yelp reviews HERE or their website with a list of their services and weekly specials HERE.

My Petite Styles for Work + Awesome Sales!

Today I am going to show you ladies four different outfits for different types of work environments. This first outfit I like to call a hybrid between business casual and business professional. This outfit is so versatile because you can add a blazer and make the look more professional or switch into some comfy flats and a cardigan and instantly make this outfit into a business casual one. LOFT is currently having their Friendsgiving sale and all you have to do is sign up here to receive their special promo code via email. I went into loft recently and saw that everything is currently 60% off their sale section. I picked up this scallop ruffle top in a size small petite and think this will look great tucked in with some work pants for a more business-professional attire. My pants are also from Loft and they are the Julie Fit Skinny Ankle Pants. The Julie Fit is specifically designed for women who have a smaller waist but curvier hips. These fit me perfectly since they are petite and ankle length so they fit me like regular work pants and are made of a thicker material that is perfect for the winter time. I paired this outfit with a pair of black pumps from DSW.

This next outfit is more on the business casual side as it styled with a flutter peplum top and is made out of cotton. The peplum at the the bottom makes this more of a dressier shirt despite the cotton material. Because this shirt does run big and is supposed to be more of a relaxed top I got this shirt in a size XS. In order to glam up this look I decided to pair this with a beaded cluster necklace also from loft. The 60% off also applies to jewelry that is also marked down.

This next style is for those that want to easily turn their work outfit into a happy hour outfit or night out outfit. H&M is currently have a sale where most tops are $10 or $15. I was able to find this one in one of their sale sections in the UES on 86th street and Lexington ave. This outfit works great for an office because of the fabric and delicate lace details on top. If you want to cover most of the lace I suggest wearing a blazer or cardigan on top to cover the back and the shoulders. This all black outfit will also pair great with a pop of color such as burgundy pumps or a burgundy blazer.

Banana Republic is also having a 40% off their Friendsgiving sale if you use the promo code FRIENDS at checkout. You can also use this code in GAP and Old Navy. In stores Banana Republic is having 50% off their sale section so I was able to pick up this thick crocheted sweater dress in a size large. This sweater dress is more for a laid back company with very little dress codes. I can see somewhere wearing this look if they worked at Seventeen Magazine or a fashion company. This dress is a bit see-through so I decided to wear a spaghetti strap shirt underneath as well as short spanks. To make this a bit more work appropriate I decided to add sheer black tights as well as over the knee boots for extra coverage.

I really hope you all enjoyed this post and my take on outfits that work well for petite women. This post is not sponsored by any of the clothing companies mentioned. Till next time!

4 Ways To Style A Suede Skirt

H&M Cardigan HERE | Tank Top HERE | Forever21 skirt Similar HERE |
OTK Boots Similar HERE

I wore this faux suede skirt during my recent trip to Rockport, MA and decided that there are just too many endless possibilities with how to style this skirt that I couldn't pass up on doing a fashion post. My first outfit consisted of pairing this skirt with a black tank top from Forever21, a plain black cardigan from H&M, and a necklace from JCPenney. I wanted the main focus to be on the skirt and this pair of Over The Knee Boots from DSW that hits me perfectly right below my thighs. This outfit is for those that do not want to show off too much legs or want to feel a bit warmer during the Fall season.

Don't have a pair of OTK boots? Not a problem! This next outfit is what I call my "cheat shoes" for when I want that OTK boot look but don't want to actually wear them. If you don't own a pair of OTK I suggest trying some thick black over the knee socks that pair well with a black shoe. This look instantly gives an OTK boot vibe. I decided to pair this skirt with a more mustard-olive green shirt since I think blending colors is totally acceptable when done right.

What's that? You want to show off them sexy legs? For this outfit I decided to be brave and mix bold colors together. I actually think this outfit is work appropriate (if you add sheer black or nude tights underneath). This outfit to me screams Fall! Burgundy has to be one of my favorite colors of all time throughout the year (I don't care if it's only a Fall color, I will wear it year round!) and this top matched with the faux suede skirt made just the perfect pairing for this season. If you are uncomfortable with where this skirt hits your thighs then don't fear, this is a very stretchy material so you can wear this skirt as low or high as you'd like.

Tights Similar HERE   Fringe Booties HERE

Want a more edgier look? I think pairing this skirt with some sheer tights (or even opaque ones) instantly turn this preppy look into a more edgier/rockstar feel. I decided to pair this skirt with sheer tights that had a strip of bows running down the legs and paired it with a mixture of cool tones such as a taupe crop top, a grey semi long cardigan, and a taupe fringe western bootie. Overall I love this outfit because I am not showing too much skin and the tights make my legs seem longer because of where the booties cut them off.

Special thanks to the talented Sandra P for the pictures. Check her out HERE. Stay tuned for another fashion post coming soon!

Weekend getaway: Rockport, MA

This right here is picture perfect! Believe it or not but this picture was taken by my boyfriend on his iPhone! We were lucky enough to find a path that lead to this scenic view and my was it breathtaking! If you are planning on booking a mini vacation for the weekend I highly suggest visiting Rockport, MA during the summer or just around the Fall foliage season.
Hey look it's me and my cupcake! Daniel and I decided last minute that we wanted to get away from the city and travel to New England to also celebrate our anniversary weekend. Because of my schedule we had to go during Halloween weekend and the weather was not bad! It did rain the first day we were there but it wasn't too bad that we needed an umbrella.

Overall I think Rockport is a cute little town for anyone who wants to get away from a crowded city for just a weekend. I admired all of the self-owned shops and how welcoming everyone was. Even though Rockport is a very small town with very few things to do, we did manage to find awesome scenic places and places to eat with great food. Everything about this town was peaceful and relaxing even though we only spent a day and half here. Driving around town was also beautiful! Houses and trees everywhere with no traffic or angry NYC drivers.

I stumbled across this shop while window shopping Downtown and was admired by all the colorful artwork in this small shop. I decided to browse around in the porch when the owner stepped out and asked if we were looking for something in specific. Of course my curiosity got the best of me and I asked whether he had a unicorn painting and he did! Lauri the owner paints all of his original pieces by hand but prints them out into smaller or bigger sizes. I was able to snatch up the unicorn (bottom right picture) for only $9. Most of his hand painted drawings retail for $50 and higher. This and some salt water taffy were the only souvenirs I got for myself and I cannot wait to hang up my unicorn painting. You can check out Lauri's gallery HERE.

Our first meal in Rockport was at Red Skiff Restaurant and I ordered a breakfast burrito along with hot cocoa. Daniel wanted a more traditional breakfast so he ordered two chocolate chip pancakes with a side of sausage, bacon and black coffee. I must say that my burrito was the BEST breakfast burrito I have ever had! I do not know what kind of sauce it had or whether they used fresh ingredients that made this burrito just melt in my mouth! Daniel's breakfast was great too as he did not expect his pancakes to be so huge! I of course had to help him with his second pancake since he was full after just one. You can check out their Facebook page HERE or check out their menu and more pictures HERE.

Last but certainly not least is this extra small lobster shop we went to because it is the highest rated place to get lobster. A little fact about me, I love seafood and it is one of my favorite foods when it is paired with pasta. I was determined to have my lobster since it is fresh and a lot cheaper. This was my first time having a lobster roll and I wasn't sure whether I would like it or not but oh my goodness!!! This has got to be the best lobster I have ever tasted! Of course because the lobster was so fresh I started to have minor allergic reactions but that wasn't enough to make me stop eating it. You can check out their Facebook page HERE or their yelp reviews HERE.

Overall this was a very much needed trip and I am so happy I was able to spend a weekend here with Daniel and just chill out for a couple of days. I cannot wait to explore more towns in New England. Keep an eye out for my Salem, MA post coming in a couple of days!

Cozy outfit for an even cozier Airbnb in Rockport, MA

Sometimes getting away from NYC is a good thing. This past weekend my boyfriend and I decided to travel to Rockport, MA for a relaxing getaway weekend. We stayed at an airbnb and I immediately fell in love with this place. We were fortunate enough to stay here during Halloween weekend for a very affordable price. You can check out their place HERE

Philosophy Top(Similar HERE) | Debut Scalloped Sweater(Similar HERE)
Forever21 Jeans (HERE) | Straw Hat (Similar HERE) | Boots (Similare HERE)

My outfit was more on the cozier side since we were driving back to NYC that night. I wore a dressy shirt from Philosphy that has lace shoulders (not pictured) for a more delicate and feminine look to it. I decided to pair the shirt with a comfy sweater that was on the thinner side but soft to the touch with a scalloped finished at the end. Because I wanted to feel comfortable during the car ride later that evening I decided to wear Forever21 jeans, and my lace up combat boots. And of course just for fun i decided to wear these straw hats that were part of the house decor. Every corner of this cozy home was beautifully decorated and truly felt like a home. I admired all of the bright colors and natural sunlight this place had. Each corner had a cozy spot with lots of pillows such as the one in the picture above.

Unfortunately we had missed the fall foliage but did see a couple of trees, such as the one in our garden, that still had a bit of that fall color to them.  I hope to one day in the future come back to this place and relive wonderful memories that were made in this beautiful town of Rockport, MA. Stay tuned for all the wonderful adventures and things to do in Rockport and Salem, MA.
